India is endowed with rich solar energy resource. The average intensity of solar radiation received on India is 200 MW/km square. Even if 10% India's geographical area can be used, the available solar energy would be 8 million MW, which is equivalent to 5909 mtoe per year.
Currently, India has 6 megawatts of grid-connected solar generation capacity. As part of the National Solar Mission, the ministry aims an ambitious target of generating 20,000 MW solar power by 2022. As a "first benchmark" in the next three years, India plans to add 1,300 megawatts of solar power of which 1,100 megawatts will be grid-connected and 200 megawatts will be off-grid. The main objective of this mission is to establish India as a global leader in solar energy.
Greenko aims to install 3 grid connected solar photovoltaic plants (2 MW each), in Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Greenko would initially set up 2 MW grid connected solar projects in Andhra Pradesh, whose land acquisition is complete and is in the process for acquiring other approvals.
